Not Your Typical Birthday

Wednesday, Jan 25, I turned 28 again. It began like most wednesdays, waking at 5:3OAM to teach my early morning sculpt class. They are an awesome, energetic class and I got to make my announcement that I would proclaim over and over again that day... It's my birthday! I'm the queen of the day! All bow to me! Well, it wasn't exactly like that, but I certainly felt that way. It was the beginning of a great day!

Once class was over, I made my way home, got myself together, and headed for work. I wondered what the day would hold, a decorated desk and a home made cake from Chalene? Yum Yum... As I was approaching work, I glanced at my phone an noticed I had missed a call. Bret (my boss) had left a message for me to come to work in workout wear because Chalene (his wife, my other boss) was going to preview Round 27 for us in the office. She wanted feedback on some of the choreography. Wheeee! This would be super, duper, keeno funo! As I made my way into the office and to my desk, I was surprised, there was no decorated desk awaiting me.. but something much better! A decorated coffee tumbler with a photo from our office holiday brunch and to top it off a gift card to Starbucks! Can you say.. like totally awesome?

Bret and Chalene arrived in the office and called everyone into their office. Oblivious, I thought there was going to be some big business announcement. Gullible is my middle name. Anyhoo. Chalene says... since it was my birthday, the entire office would get to go down to Laguna Beach and run the "thousand steps". Right on! So cool! To top it off... we got lunch too! I think I left my lungs on one of the steps. But, it was so worth it. The beach was beautiful and it was the perfect day! Who could ask for anything more. After all. I had two more classes that night to announce... It's my birthday and I'm queen of the day!

PiYo™ 8 - A Super Charged Challenging Workout!

I was blessed to be a part of the filming of PiYo™ 8 last weekend and I can barely walk.. YEAH! My quadriceps and gluteals are screaming. PiYo™ 8 is unlike any of the previous PiYo™ lessons. It takes a very athletic rhythmic approach and leaves you sweating and begging for more! If you are not already on the VIP discount program, you better join before this lesson gets released. You need to get it before everyone else does. When you experience the banana and bootcamp abs, you will be crying for your mama. I really enjoyed the challenging flow, holds, and combinations.

If you are not yet certified or teaching PiYo™, I know you will love this format. It combines the best from yoga, Pilates, dance, athletic conditioning, gymnastics, and strength training. It is an amazing class and workout that can be tailored to any level.

Eating Healthy - Not As Hard As You Think

Plan, plan, plan. You have to follow a plan. That is how I lost 6 lbs in 10 days. No this was not a crazy crash diet or a magic pill. I was handed a plan. My plan happened to be the Turbo Jam 10 day kick start. Whatever your plan, make sure it is safe and makes sense.

There is NO MAGIC PILL. If you can't see yourself sticking to the plan, with calorie/food adjustments to meet your specific nutritional needs, for the rest of your life, IT WON'T WORK! Do these sound familiar: vinegar or lemon flush, grapefruit diet, protein/no carb diets, etc. When you diet do you tend to skip meals, reduce daily calories under 1200 a day? Is reasonable exercise a part of your diet plan?

It is truly simple. Do you plan your week? Well, start. This is a success tip from 7 Habits for Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey. Take time before the beginning of your week to plan the rest. This goes for your meals too!

Here is what works for me. I purchased several disposable, small containers. I plan what I am going to eat throughout the next week. Then we cook, prepare, pack. I'm lucky, I can see the TV from my kitchen. It takes me about 2 hours to cook and prepare my meals and then about another hour to pack it all. Since the containers are disposable, I also put my initials on them so any hungry family members that think they can steal a quick bite know; these containers are off limits. Don't make me open up a can of whoops.... Got that from my Chinese mother in law.

What do I end up with.... The majority of my meals, ready to go. I don't need to wonder what to eat. I'm ready to attack the week, keep my energy up, and stay healthy.

Keep coming back for more healthy lifestyle tips.
